Conference in Pécs in honour of a Bauhaus master

The Pécs Pro Pannonia Publishing foundation started a programme three years ago that aims at introducing to a wider public the works and the results of the latest research of the Pécs Bauhaus masters representing special values from the last century. The event takes place as part of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme.

More bilingual books have already been published in the framework of the series introducing the Bauhaus masters that processed the works of the renowned authors Andor Weininger, Alfréd Forbát and Marcel Breuer. The books were introduced in Budapest. During the programme a multimedia creative camp by the name „Bauhaus reflections” has been organised for the university students.

Continuing the programme in the future Farkas Molnár will be in focus. His work represents the Pécs cultural heritage and traditions and it is part of a process the result of which was that artists born in Pécs in the 20th century became decisive figures in the European and the worldwide rebirth of arts. It is impossible to realistically evaluate our cultural heritage without these artists whose performances were put in the international contexts already when they were born. Their introduction may help Pécs get closer to Europe.

Farkas Molnár is strongly attached to Pécs: he was born here in 1897, he studied at the Ciszterci Grammar School between 1907 and 1915, he graduated in Pécs, he became a member of the Pécs activist periodical as a painter in 1920 and he helped establishing the „Pécsi Művészkör” Pécs Circle of Artists that has aided the works of numerous artists who developed exciting and influential careers later.

Getting acquainted with his works - that are primarily connected to Germany and Hungary but in reality cover wider European dimensions - may help in making people aware that Pécs has been the city of important artistic initiations and of creating values for a long time now.
The Farkas Molnár project has two pillars; experts will evaluate his versatile body of works through a conference and a bilingual book (Hungarian, English) will be made of the renowned architect that will be published in spring 2010.
