Destination Pécs – Let’s Go!
THE NATIONAL CAMPAIGN OF THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE PROGRAMME HAS STARTED
EVENTS IN FOCUS
Destination Pécs is the name of the national campaign that has just started to popularise the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme. The aim of the action taken by the City of Pécs, the Management Centre of the Pécs 2010 Programme and Hungarofest Ltd. is to attract people’s attention to the coming series of programmes and to give constant information about the events of the Pécs2010 Programme to the enquirers.
Artists and Emcees (masters of ceremony) for the success of Pécs2010
Between 7 December 2009 and 31 January 2010 more than 100 participants will popularise the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Project in Budapest and in other 20 bigger cities in ca. 70 places. On 9 December 2009 in the Budapest West End City Centre – cooperating partner of the Pécs2010 Programme – with the participation of well-known and popular Hungarian artists and emcees an opening ceremony was held where they helped enquirers sign up for the newsletter to become part of the Pécs 2010 ECoC information flow.
„It is great honour for me as a person born in Pécs that I can take part in popularising the programme. It is very important for me that as many people as possible see what our city is capable of in times when unity is needed” – said Evelyne Kandech performance artist.
„My wife was born in Pécs so we often go there. It is very good to see those changes that were initiated by the Pécs2010 ECoC Programme, and I hope that the city and the country will make profit from these in the long term also” – said Zoltán Szujó emcee, presenter.
”Even though I was born in Budapest I love Pécs and I would like to send the message to everyone to go to Pécs in 2010 and discover the 1000 faces of culture and of the city that is as colourful as next year will be” – said András Stohl performance artist and emcee.
Passport to the Cultural Capital of Europe
Those enquirers who sign up for Destination Pécs during the nearly two months long national campaign at theatres, universities, public spaces and hypermarkets get a ’passport’ that gives them different discounts each month when they take part in a programme in Pécs in 2010. They also get a newsletter to be up-to-date in the different events of the 2010 European Capital of Culture Programme. Until the end of 2010 the organisers also draw one person each month who wins free accommodation for a weekend for two in Pécs.
„According to the experience of these first few days it can be said that there is huge interest towards the Pécs 2010 ECoC Programme. People continuously sign up at the information points, and already much more people have given their e-mail addresses to get coverage than anticipated. We hope that this interest will not be lost in the following weeks either and that those people will also visit our city who have never been here before.” – said Rita Rubovszky managing director of Hungarofest Ltd.
“The aim of the ’passport’ campaign is to establish a public who come and visit Pécs several different times during next year for the different unique programmes” – added Csaba Ruzsa managing director of the Pécs2010 Management Centre.
