A new Zsolnay exhibition that introduces artworks from the two work areas of the factory opened in the Palace of Arts on 19 November. Visitors can admire on one hand the traditional products of the Zsolnay Manufacture and the contemporary works of the factory on the other.
The world famous Zsolnay brand and the City of Pécs have had a common history of more than 150 years. One of the key projects of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme is also connected to the Zsolnay factory; this will become the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter after its renovation and rebuilding.
It was in the fever of the preparations for the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme that the idea was born to awaken the cooperation between the Zsolnay Factory and the contemporary fine arts and handicrafts since the presence of these are part of the noble Zsolnay tradition. The Zsolnay Heritage Pbc. won support for a three year long programme in relation to the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme. Ten adventurous artists including some real live classics like Ilona Keserü, Zoltán Pál, Imre Schrammel, Sándor Pincehelyi, István B. Gellér and Zsolt Czakó – made attempts to create such autonomous and high artistic quality products by the still unique Zsolnay technologies that are ready for production. The aim is to have a large porcelain collection in the factory by 2010 that could be presented for the whole world.
The Zsolnay brand has been the symbol of tradition, uniqueness and artistic value for over 150 years now. Through its long history it has always been able to show something new and something significant. This actual exhibition aims at introducing the traditional and the innovative lines of the activities of the Zsolnay Manufacture. Paying tribute to the past the event offers limited series (50 pieces) items for collectors.
The first members of the Zsolnay curiosity are the so-called Vulkán (Volcanoe) vases. In the framework of the renewed table culture the new Rippl-Rónai set that was based on the theme plans of the 111 year old Rippl-Rónai-Zsolnay cutlery set can be viewed. The Katti Zoób jewellery collection also forms part of the exhibition with its special world of shapes and forms that became a curiosity on the market of luxury products in 2006. These two brands offer something unique and extraordinary by the meeting of fashion and the tradition of arts and crafts.
