Pécs on the way towards the 2010 European Capital of Culture Programme

Two devoted Pécs lovers had the idea to record the process the city had to go through to win and hold the title ’Cultural Capital of Europe’ in 2010.

The authors are Herbert Kuhnle (74); maker of several international prize winner movies, professional cameraman, sound guy and movie cutter and Friedrich Wilhelm Kiel (75); previous mayor of Fellbach, honorary citizen of Pécs and appointed goodwill ambassador of Fellbach.

The shooting of the movie took one week in March, June and November 2009.

From the several hundred hours of recording a 40-hour long raw material was selected out of which the final 40-minute mini DV+DVD film has been done.
The shortened 18-minute version of the film will be screened in different countries at international movie premiers and we hope that the maker will receive another international award for this work also.

The movie presents some of the most important parts and faces of the city like the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture, the Bishop’s Palace, the Turkish mosque on the main square, the Pécs monument of liberty, the TV tower, the rehearsal of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra and Pécs Ballet the official ambassadors of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme and some prestigious Pécs citizens (painters, sculptors and students) and art groups. The film also includes some details about the revival works of the parks and public spaces, and some valuable ideas in connection to the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme.

This is not a movie for commercial trade but it can be screened for every other purpose. The author duo would like to present Pécs – the sister city of Fellbach - with this work.

The premier of the movie will be in ‘Uránia Mozi’ Urania Movie Theatre at 16:00 on 9 January 2010. Entry is free of charge.
