Key Projects - Revival of public spaces and parks
Central section of the Megyer City Quarter
The main task is to renew the central public space of this city quarter and improve its usability by revamping the pavement in a practical and economic way and tiding up the green surfaces. The valuable standing timber in the green areas will be preserved. Access to the shops and service units by car on the eastern side of the Education Centre and Csontváry Street will improve considerably. The environment of the central institution of the city quarter, the Education Centre and the currently unused section of the former bus station will also be renewed.
The currently rather bleak asphalt surface will be replaced by a park with several functions for free time activities, which can become the scene of everyday community life, together with the renewed Agora, providing a venue for outdoor events. The fountain will also be renewed and its neighbourhood will be turned into a pleasant square with decorative paving.
The results of the design competition were announced in February 2008, and following the preparatory licensing procedures construction works began in March 2009.
