Key Projects - Revival of public spaces and parks

Eastern City Quarter

New public spaces that meet European standards will be created here, which not only meet the expectations of the 21st century but also respect the heritage of the past and the existing urban structure. Planning focuses on three distinct areas: Szondi György Promenade and the related green space, the area around the mouth of Komját Aladár Street and the public park in Feketegyémánt Square.

The western side of Komlói Street: transformation will affect Szondi György Promenade and the playgrounds and resting places embedded in the green surfaces between the residential buildings east of the promenade. Priority during the planning phase was given to strengthening the pedestrian axis and expanding leisure time functions by taking into account the existing urban structure.

Eastern side of Komlósi Street: the currently dominant playground and resting area in Feketegyémánt Square will be revived, offering more creative opportunities for relaxation and recreation to visitors. Even at this point in the planning phase it is highly important that Komját Aladár Street should be developed into a significant route in the structure of the city. The main goal of reviving the eastern quarter is to create a community, promote the development of cultural life in public spaces and the quality of life in the quarter, strengthen its cultural character and improve the quality of playgrounds and green spaces.

Construction works began in June 2009.
