Key Projects - Revival of public spaces and parks

"ECoC Quarter"

The project is designed to improve the neighbourhood of the new investments – the South Transdanubian Regional Library as well as the Knowledge Centre and the Conference and Concert Centre – and to extend the city centre to the east from the end of Király Street through Búza Square up to the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter. The public spaces to be renewed include Egyetem Street, Universitas Street, 48-as Square, Balokány-liget, Felsővámház Street, Alsóbalokány Street, Felsőbalokány Street and Alsóhavi Street. The entire area extending from 48-as Square, the Eastern Campus of the University, up to the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter will turn into a youthful, busy cultural quarter whose main axis will be Universitas Street, a new promenade for pedestrians.

The scheduling of renewal works is aligned with the schedule of implementing the other key projects. Construction works began in June 2009.
