Key Projects - Revival of public spaces and parks

Further public spaces to be revived

Diana Square

The planning area involves the public park surrounding the market place in Diana Square and the pedestrian axis to its west, including Berek Promenade up to Varsány Street.

The centre of the housing complex first built in the Kertváros Housing Estate is the axis created by Diana Square – Berek Promenade. This is the axis along which several service and retail facilities were built to serve the city quarter.

The reconstruction of the public park in Diana Square includes reviving plants and installing street furniture. Berek Promenade will become a public space that plays a major role in the centre of the quarter and is suitable for creating a sense of community using creative ideas of urban architecture. Pedestrian routes will also be renewed and made free from barriers.

Implementation began in March 2009.

Rókus Promenade

This Promenade, which constitutes the centre of the Szigeti City Quarter, lies from Szigeti Street up to Ifjúság Street, where several service and retail facilities serve the residents of the area.

As a result of the reconstruction the entire promenade will be renewed. The area will be paved and freed from barriers. The green areas and playgrounds in the neighbourhood will be revived, including the existing sports field, and Sándor Kígyós's sculpture erected there will also be renewed.

Implementation began in March 2009.

Köztársaság Square

Reconstruction will include the pedestrian area of the square. The plan breaks the park into three sections; the eastern side will have a new dripping well with plastic art sculpture and decorative paving bounded by the combination of benches and plants. This section would provide a meeting place especially for young people around the fountain to chat.

The middle section of the park will be characterised by a contiguous lawn where the dominant function will be to provide a place for resting, especially for the older generation and parents with small kids. Bajnok Street will no longer go through the middle of the square. József Antall's bust will be set up here too.

The third, western section will have a playground with a free layout, a large sandbox and skills toys, meant especially for little kids. The playground will be separated from the resting garden by the monument that will stay where it is now.

Implementation began in March 2009.
