Key Projects - Revival of public spaces and parks
Indóház Square, Domus Car Park, Centrum Car Park
One of the "gates" to the city, the railway station and the busiest local bus station in front of it will await visitors in an entirely new and improved shape. The changes will affect Indóház Sqaure, Domus Car Park and the adjacent park, Rét Street, the junction at Jókai Street and Vasút Street, the junction at Kálvin J. Street and Mártírok Street, and Móricz Zsigmond Square. The bus station will be reduced in size; instead a spacious park will be created with benches, pergolas, lots of plants, water surfaces and information points. The Domus Car Park will retain its function, the playground will be renewed and expanded, and the entire square will provide a uniform environment for people who wish to take a rest or find some amusement as well as those who park their cars here.
Tidying up the immediate environment of the railway station will create a space that can give a pleasant impression to people arriving in the city (the first impression) and to people leaving the city (the last impression when saying farewell to it). Public transport vehicles, taxis and other vehicles will run and stop or wait for passengers in accordance with a new schedule that matches the new design of the area. The ground space of the bust station will be reduced and the number of buses will be minimised. The square will have information points and service stands, and a MÁV P+R car park will be added.
The design competition was announced in May 2008, and following the preparatory licensing procedures construction started in June 2009.
