Key Projects - Revival of public spaces and parks

Tettye Quarter

By reviving one of the most beautiful areas of Pécs, a popular destination for local residents and tourists alike, the Tettye Park is being improved significantly, the panorama promenade on Havihegy will be completed, and the pedestrian axis linking the Tettye Quarter with the city centre will also be implemented. The areas affected by the development include Tettye Street, Vince Street, Felsőhavi Street and Ágoston Square.

The playground in the park will be expanded and become suitable for different age groups to spend their time there. In addition to children's playgrounds, several facilities and sport fields for adults will also be added to the park. The open-air stage and its related infrastructure will be provided with an environment that is worthy of the entire facility and the cultural events held in it, while the number of parking spaces will also increase considerably. By establishing a panorama promenade on Havihegy and furnishing benches and resting places for pedestrians the site may become an even more popular destination for tourists and local people.

Ágoston Square

Due to its location, this street plays an important role in providing a link between Tettye and the city centre, therefore its development is extremely important. The newly created square will be suitable for hosting public art, sculptures and other artistic installations.

Tettye Street – Majorossy Street – Karmelita Close

The three streets constitute a unit in terms of traffic. Lower traffic load will arise from making Majorossy Street a one-way street to the north and Tettye Street to the south. This way, cars can be parked in parallel in these streets. The rest of Tettye Street and Karmelita Close will remain to be two-way streets.

Vince Street

This street lies right at the deepest point of the valley. It runs along an underground stream, which will partly be brought to the surface during the renewal of the quarter. The role of this street is no less than becoming the "High Street" of the city quarter and providing a high quality link between the renewed Ágoston Square and the residential buildings in Magaslati Street.

Tettye Square

This extremely popular park will also be entirely revived. The passage leading into the Tettye cave, the Tettye ruins and the Summer Theatre will all be renewed. In view of the city's traditions the City Wine House will also be renewed in Böckh János Street.

Panorama Promenade

The entire promenade will be renewed, receive a new pavement and pieces of street furniture, whereby a new, magnificent walking and resting space will be established that may soon become a major sight in Pécs.

Felsőhavi Street

The entire Felsőhavi Street will be reconstructed, the pavement will be replaced, plants will be added, and the old pilgrim's route will be revived.

The results of the design competition were announced in November 2007, and following the preparatory licensing procedures the two-phase construction began in March 2009.
