The Pécs Diocese celebrates the 1000-year anniversary of its foundation. For this outstanding occasion the Bishopric of Pécs prepared with a six-day celebration between 18 and 23 August. The wide-scale programmes were the official events of The Pécs 2010 European Capital of Culture Programme in the year 2009 that is dedicated to religious culture. /more

Pécs-Baranya Roma Day

The Pécs-Baranya Roma Day is organised this year on 29 August with discussions, lectures and lots and lots of music. The programme will come to life by the support of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme. One of the central issues within the ECoC programme is related to the equal opportunities of the minority cultures. This could not be any other way since Pécs is the home of minority cultures; there are nine different minority local governments in this city. /more

Pécs: main act in the main season

The third ’Main Season’ exhibition in Budapest is held 18-20 September this year. The aim of the event that offers colourful and varied programmes is to encourage tourism and to lengthen the season. During the time of the Main Season the whole Hungarian tourist scene – including the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture (ECoC) Programme – will be introduced. /more

Pécs2010 on the Sziget Festival of Budapest

Culture makes us great! Hungary’s biggest cultural event ever; that is the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture (ECoC) programme introduced itself on the Sziget (Island) Festival this year. Inquirers got information about the Pécs 2010 European Capital of Culture programme primarily at the gigantic Vassily-chair resembling the Pécs logo, but the organisers also tried to attract festival goers to Pécs in 2010 with a reading park, and by offering them wine from the popular regions around Pécs. /more
