Zsolt Horváth
Zsolt Horváth, a 37-year old economist and trumpet player, pursued his secondary school studies in Pécs and settled down in the city after graduation. He earned an honours degree at the Music Academy of Vienna in 1999, and then graduated in marketing management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Pécs.
He has been working as a trumpet artist at the Pécs Symphony Orchestra and as a teacher of trumpet playing at the Secondary Music School of Pécs and the University of Pécs since 1996. He has scored an incredible success as a teacher; his students have won several prizes at national competitions.
He acted as the organiser and founder of several artistic festivals (International Trumpet Player's Days, György Czifra Memorial Festival) between 1997 and 1999. Since 2003 he has been the director of the Pécs Symphony Orchestra, which is now called Pannon Philharmonic – Pécs. His name is linked with the structural innovation which enabled the Pannon Philharmonic to renew its artistic concept. His work resulted in the introduction and effective application of a system of management for the orchestra that matches the quality of its artistic performance as well as in the introduction of several cultural innovations and forms of cooperation.
Under his leadership the Pannon Philharmonic has by now become one of the most outstanding orchestras of Hungary. He played an active role in the elaboration of the ECoC application as the director of the orchestra and is seen as one of the best-informed experts of the key ECoC projects, since he was the author of the Programme Description for the concert hall to be built as part of the ECoC project, he was member of the jury evaluating the design competition and acted as a musical expert in the elaboration of the feasibility study. He also assisted the elaboration of the Cultural Strategy written for the City of Pécs. He has higher-level proficiency in German, is divorced and the father to one child.
